Utopia

Lyman Tower Sargent is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has been a Visiting Professor at various universities in England and New Zealand. He has published widely on issues related to utopia, political ideologies and intentional communities. His contribution to the definition of the concepts of utopia and utopianism is acknowledged by the academic community. He founded the journal Utopian Studies in 1990 and edited it until 2004. He received the Distinguished Scholar Award of both the Communal Studies Association and the Society for Utopian Studies, which has since named the award the Lyman Tower Sargent Distinguished Scholar Award. Both the database Utopian Literature in English: An Annotated Bibliography from 1516 to the Present, published online by Penn State, and the database hereby published by the University of Porto are the result of decades of research.
